I am sorry to hear about the recent loss of your daughter, Theresa. Together, we were staff members of the collective called the Martlet, the mythical footless bird who brought truth to its readers. As you may have guessed, Theresa spent countless hours enslaved by this bird because she desired to develop and nuture its strength to live up to its fullest potential. Many of us marvelled at her energy and drive as this was just one part of her rather hectic schedule during her undergraduate years at the University of Victoria.

My time spent with Theresa was never a dull moment. On issues of management of the Martlet, we would discuss and debate from what seemed to be opposite divides. During these heated meetings, she would try to find ways to accommodate all sides, no matter how entrenched the positions were. She always argued from the higher moral ground, defending those without a voice, and seeing a future of peace and prosperity for all.

During social events, she was a very warm and accepting person. It just seemed she had friends from every walk of life. Up to this day, I still do not know how she balanced all this in a seven-day week.

We have not spoken to each other since leaving the Martlet, but I had heard from the grapevine that her life was very impressive outside the ivory tower of higher learning. I regret not keeping in touch with her.

Sincerely,

Raymond Kwong
